The Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP) is a Canadian immigration stream that allows a Canadian citizen, a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act or a Permanent Resident to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. This initiative supports family reunification & enabling families to live together.
The PGP operates on an invitation-based system. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) opens a limited interest-to-sponsor form for eligible individuals to express their intent to sponsor. IRCC then randomly selects potential sponsors from the pool and invites them to apply. Those invited must submit a complete sponsorship and permanent residence application for their parents & or grandparents within the given deadline.
Note: The sponsored person must undergo medical, criminal, and background checks.
This stream is a meaningful option for families seeking to build multigenerational homes and enjoy a better quality of life together in Canada.
